2014, Moldova. 3 banks. 1 billion $ vanished. Officials were involved, including the Government. What has been stolen became public debt & has to be returned by every citizen by 2041. The fraud is equivalent to 12% of Moldova's GDP. The fraud entered international media & pop culture. Today, after no progress in the investigation, we are still asking #wheresthebillion.

Cutia Neagră, the investigations TV show, launched the first ever Billion Dollar Banknote, as a reminder about the fraud & lack of progress in investigation. On the 5th anniversary, we printed 5000 banknotes with visual metaphors & a timeline of the key dates of the fraud. We handed the stolen billion back to the people, Governor of the National Bank, Prime Minister & President.
