Task

Creating a documentary film about the first speed festival on the ice of lake Baikal for the Discovery Channel. Goals and objectives of the creating a film: increase the number of participants and viewers of the Baikal Mile festival; popularization of Buryatia across the country and the world through the public love for motor sports

Ideas and solutions

The Baikal mile festival is a significant event in the history of Russian auto and motorsport. It is supported by the administration of the Republic of Buryatia. In 2019 twenty Russian teams built unique vehicles to set speed records on ice. We chose the brightest participants and through them revealed the history of the first ice speed festival. The 44-minute film aired on the Discovery Channel in November 2019 and was watched by 700,000 viewers, with 408,000 viewers online (Youtube and VK). Through professional documentary filming we showed the unique natural and national features of Buryatia, increased tourist attention to the region and raised the Patriotic spirit of the adult and younger generation of viewers. The event was sponsored by various companies, and the General partner was LUKOIL, whose branding was natively integrated into the film. The following year, the number of festival participants increased from 20 teams to 100 (6 of which came from Europe). In 2020, the second festival was held on a multiple scale.
